This is a homework read from my boss and, as I am not a big fan of a how-to book, I was skeptical about getting anything useful from this. However, I would be lying if I say it’s not a good read. In fact, the book actually makes sense and has everything I expect from a business.

The good thing about this book is, it understands how we feel, what process we are going through as a small business operator. It’s reading my mind yet, it’s better told. (Please note: I am not a business owner and not planning to be one near future.)

Through his conversation while helping Sarah’s “All About Pies”, Mr Gerber guides small business to grow from the entrepreneurial infancy to the mature perspective, and most importantly to note the distinction between working on and working in the business.

How many times we believe that we could run our own business, just because we know how to do the job? Mr Gerber shows us into perspective what’s wrong in that. There are 3 personalities that should synergy in a business: the entrepreneur who has the visions and keeps innovating, the manager who builds the system and enforces them, and the technician who has the technical expertise about the job and can do the job well. We cannot be a successful entrepreneur if we open our own business and focus on doing the job. That’s simply the technician having entrepreneurial seizure.

The foundation to continue the business development is through the integrated system which supports our Innovation, Quantification and Orchestration. Continue with E-myth Mastery to expand and go in-depth on each guide/strategy.

Those who are already in the business that work well may find this book very general and not so useful. But for those who just starts a small business or having a hard time to survive, this book can give realistic guidance and motivation to hang in there and get out from jinx of failing.
